Immigrant. Filipina. Wife. Mom to three two furkids (rest well, my beautiful boy). Student–both in grad school and in life.
I’m doing my PhD with a focus on gender studies, because I want to teach and work in academia. But I do not want to be an academic feminist. I hope to continue working with organizations committed towards social justice issues.
I’ve been trying to follow the conversations. What is feminism? Who is feminism for? How do we deal with the intersectionalities? Though I am an older student, many of these ideas are new to me, uncomfortable and challenging. I am still working out my ideas regarding women, marginalization, class, race. I would like to join the conversations, to learn from and learn with people who are engaged in the same struggles.
